| Es difícil pensar en Federico García Lorca y en su obra sin asociarlos al campo, a la tierra y, en concreto, a los pueblos (Fuente Vaqueros, Valderrubio, Pinos Puente, Romilla y todos los núcleos desgajados del Soto de Roma) de la entonces feraz Vega de Granada. Allí nació, escribió sus prosas y versos juveniles, tomó conciencia social; allí también maduró y, ya adulto, viviendo en Madrid, en la Vega buscó refugio para escribir, para superar crisis personales o escapar del ambiente hosco que desembocó en la Guerra Civil y en su propio asesinato. El poeta que describió la megalópolis Nueva York con un bisturí inmisericorde nunca olvidó su orige. “Pastores, campos, cielo, soledad. Sencillez, en suma”. De ese contraste nació el desgarro que aún aturde y emociona a los lectores del Poeta en Nueva York.It is difficult to think of Federico García Lorca and his work without associationg them both with the countryside, the land and, specifically, the villages of the then fertile Vega de Granada (Fuente Vaqueros, Valderrubio, Pinos Puente, Romilla and all the settlements of Soto de Roma). There he was born, wrote the first prose and poetry of his youth, became socially aware; there he also matured and later, as an adult living in Madrid, he sought refuge in La Vega to write, to evercome his personal crises or to escape from the hostile environment that led to the Civil War and his own assassination. The poet who wrote about the megalópolis of New York using his pen as a merciless scalpel never forgot his origins: “Sheperds, fields, sky, solitude.
