| “Globality” and “Climate change” in the early modern period comprise the two parts of this book, which starts with the inquiry, “What can the art produced in the 16th and 17th centuries tell us about the changes people were facing?” To answer this question, the first part explores 16th-century globalizing impulses through the creation of world routes and markets that crystallized in the opening of trade with China. The second part focuses on a concomitant phenomenon to transcontinental and transoceanic explorations: the climatic crisis known as the Little Ice Age and its literary depictions. As a result, early modern literature and Hispanisms are brought to the fore of two of the most relevant conversations of the 21st century: globality and climate change. "Globalidad" y "Cambio climático" a principios de la Edad Moderna componen las dos partes de este libro, que parte de la pregunta: "¿Qué puede decirnos el arte producido en los siglos XVI y XVII sobre los cambios a los que se enfrentaba la gente?". Para responder a esta pregunta, la primera parte explora los impulsos globalizadores del siglo XVI a través de la creación de rutas y mercados mundiales que cristalizaron en la apertura del comercio con China. La segunda parte se centra en un fenómeno concomitante a las exploraciones transcontinentales y transoceánicas: la crisis climática conocida como Pequeña Edad de Hielo y sus representaciones literarias. Como resultado, la literatura y los hispanismos de la temprana modernidad se sitúan en el primer plano de dos de las conversaciones más relevantes del siglo XXI: la globalidad y el cambio climático. |
