| Como en cualquier sociedad premoderna – y, por qué no, también moderna – la guerra fue una de las múltiples realidades que convivieron en el desarrollo de la historia de al-Andalus. Famosa es, por ejemplo, la guardia de mudos de los emires cordobeses, las aceifas de Almanzor o la destreza de los jinetes bereberes. No obstante, y a pesar de los numerosos avances que se han producido en los últimos años, el estudio en profundidad del medio bélico andalusí es una asignatura pendiente. En este sentido, este libro aporta un nuevo punto de partida y referencia a los estudios sobre la relación entre al-Andalus y la guerra, desde aproximaciones y perspectivas tan variadas como la ideología bélica, la tipología de tropas, la evolución del armamento, el estudio de diferentes modalidades de hacer la guerra tanto por tierra como por mar, el cuestionamiento y superación de parámetros historiográficos tradicionales, o la atención a temas y grupos sociales que han quedado habitualmente marginados a la hora de escribir la historia militar de al-Andalus en particular, y de la Edad Media en general. Y, como todo punto de partida, esperamos y deseamos que este volumen sirva para que, en el futuro, continúe incrementándose el conocimiento que sobre la realidad bélica andalusí tenemos. Such as in any pre-modern society – as well as in any modern one – war was one of the multiple realities that coexisted in the development of the history of al-Andalus. Famous is, for example, the mute guard of the Cordovan emirs, the expeditions of Almanzor or the skill of the Berber horsemen. Nevertheless, and in spite of the numerous advances that have taken place in the last years, the study in depth of the Andalusi war activity is a unfinished task. In this sense, this book provides a new starting point for studies on the relationship between al-Andalus and war, from approaches and perspectives as varied as the ideology of war, the typology of troops, the evolution of weaponry, the study of different ways of waging war both by land and by sea, the questioning and overcoming of traditional historiographical paradigms, or the attention to issues and social groups that have usually been marginalized when writing the military history of al-Andalus in particular, and of the Middle Ages in general. And, as any starting point, we hope and wish that, in the future, this volume will contribute to continue increasing the knowledge we have about the reality of warfare in al-Andalus. |
