| During the period of the Enlightenment, the word 'home' could refer to a specific and defined physical living space, the location of domestic life, and a concept related to ideas of roots, origins, and retreat. The transformations that the Enlightenment encouraged created the circumstances for the concept of home to change and develop in the following three ways. First to influence homemaking were the literary and cultural manifestations that included issues around attitudes to education, social order and disorder, sensibility, and sexuality. Secondly, were the roles of visual and material culture of the home that demonstrated themselves through print, portraiture, literature, objects and products, and dress and fashion. Thirdly, were the industrial and sociological aspects that included concepts of luxury, progress, trade and technology, consumption, domesticity, and the notions of public and private spaces within a home. Durante el periodo de la Ilustración, la palabra "hogar" podía referirse a un espacio vital físico concreto y definido, a la ubicación de la vida doméstica y a un concepto relacionado con las ideas de raíces, orígenes y retiro. Las transformaciones que propició la Ilustración crearon las circunstancias para que el concepto de hogar cambiara y se desarrollara de las tres maneras siguientes. En primer lugar, influyeron en el concepto de hogar las manifestaciones literarias y culturales que incluían cuestiones relacionadas con las actitudes hacia la educación, el orden y el desorden social, la sensibilidad y la sexualidad. En segundo lugar, el papel de la cultura visual y material del hogar, que se manifestaba a través de la imprenta, el retrato, la literatura, los objetos y productos, y el vestido y la moda. En tercer lugar, los aspectos industriales y sociológicos, que incluían conceptos como el lujo, el progreso, el comercio y la tecnología, el consumo, la domesticidad y las nociones de espacio público y privado dentro del hogar. |
